infinite growth

January 17, 2011

More than ever, i am convinced that huge numbers have to die to finally get a balance. Even if we make those quantum leaps and solve the energy problem, the food problem, the water problem, and the fast-depleting resources problem, we still have to deal with a population that doubles every couple of decades. The problem is not just our mantra of infinite growth… but that we will need infinite growth if we have to deal with the ever-increasing skewed ratio of people to resources…

Even if we magically take to sustainable living… even if we magically cut-down on wasteful consumption, go local, govern and communally own the commons, go back to the tribal worldview, etc.etc.etc., we still might only slow down the process… stretch it out a few more years.

We will still have the problem of infinite growth of numbers… and really it is anybody’s guess who will die…
